Instructions

Step 1: Crush the cookies

Place the cookies in the bowl of a food processor with the steel blade attached. Process until fine crumbs form.

Editor’s Tip: No food processor? No problem. Place the cookies in a plastic zip-top bag and crush with a rolling pin or other heavy object.

Step 2: Combine with cream cheese

Place the cookie crumbs into the bowl of a stand mixer with the paddle attached. Add the softened cream cheese and mix together until thoroughly combined.

Editor’s Tip: Don’t have a stand mixer? Place the crumbs and softened cream cheese in a large bowl and stir together with a rubber spatula.

Step 3: Make the balls

Use a scoop or spoon to form 1-inch balls. Set the balls on your parchment-lined baking sheet.

Step 4: Chill

Place the baking sheet in the freezer and chill the Oreo balls for at least 20 minutes.

Step 5: Melt the chocolate

Follow the manufacturer’s instructions to melt the chocolate wafers. If you want to get a little colorful, you can substitute candy melts for the chocolate.

Step 6: Get dipping

Use a fork to dip each chilled ball in the melted chocolate. Gently tap the ball to remove any excess chocolate and then set back it on the parchment-lined baking sheet.

Step 7: Decorate

Immediately decorate each chocolate-coated ball with sprinkles or other edible decorations of your choice.

Step 8: Let it set

Let the chocolate set completely before serving or packing the balls for storage. Oreo balls can be tucked away in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to five days.

How to Dip Oreo Balls

The key to successful dipping is making sure your chocolate is the right consistency. As soon as the melted chocolate begins to thicken, microwave it for 20 seconds to thin it back out. Make sure you have all your ingredients close at hand—including your decorations. Set a ball on a fork and gently roll it around in the melted chocolate to coat. Tap the fork against the side of the dipping bowl to remove any excess chocolate.

Dip and decorate each ball one at a time, especially if you are using sprinkles, as the chocolate can set quickly. If you plan to decorate with more chocolate, let the first coat set before drizzling with additional melted chocolate. Don’t miss this secret for the smoothest melted chocolate.

Not a fan of cream cheese? No worries! You can easily substitute your favorite nut butter instead.

Can You Freeze Oreo Balls?

You bet. Oreo balls can be stored in the freezer for up to four months. Just be sure to store them in an airtight freezer-safe container.
