  • 1-1/3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 3/4 cup baking cocoa
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts
  • 2/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 4 large eggs, lightly beaten
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chopped nuts, optional

Yields 24 brownies

Instructions

Step 1: Mix the goods

Preheat the oven to 350°. In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder, salt and nuts. Set aside. In another bowl, thoroughly combine the oil, eggs and vanilla. Gently add to dry ingredients with the help of a rubber spatula.

Pro Tip: Many of our readers recommend using walnuts for this recipe.

Step 2: Go nuts!

Spread in a 13×9-in. baking pan. Sprinkle with nuts if desired.

Step 3: Bake and enjoy

Bake the brownies for 20-25 minutes. Resist the most common brownie-making mistakes: don’t test for doneness with a toothpick (if it comes out clean, they’re overcooked!), and do let those brownies cool before devouring them.
