Starbucks Is Giving Away Free Coffee for Its 50th Anniversary—Here’s How to Get a Cup

We’re definitely getting into the real beginning of fall. It’s my favorite season, because fall comes with crisp temps, flannels, bonfires and everything on the Starbucks fall menu.

Normally, I’m happy to pay for a cup of coffee. But on National Coffee Day, you can snag a Starbucks free coffee! Here’s what you need to know.

Why Is Starbucks Offering Free Coffee?

It’s partly in celebration of National Coffee Day (even though it feels like every day is National Coffee Day). But it’s also to celebrate Starbucks’ 50th anniversary. Yes, it’s true—the coffee company that’s now on every corner started 50 years ago! The first Starbucks opened at Pike Place Market in Seattle in 1971. That’s a serious accomplishment.

This is how Starbucks got its name.

How to Get Your Starbucks Free Coffee

Stop into your local Starbucks shop with a clean, empty, reusable cup or mug (up to 20 ounces). You’ll be able to choose between freshly brewed Pike Place or cold brew, depending on location and product availability. While National Coffee Day is technically October 1, this special event will be taking place on September 29. So mark your calendars now before you forget!

Not only will regular Starbucks shops be participating, but the Starbucks Reserve Roasteries in Seattle, Chicago and New York City will also be joining the celebration. If you’re ever lucky enough to visit one of the roasteries, take the opportunity! The one here in Chicago is ridiculously gorgeous, and I visit every chance I get. There’s nothing better than starting your day with a hot, delicious cup of joe.
