And while a vanilla or chocolate cake is perfectly fine for any celebration, what if you really kicked things up a notch with even more flavor? Enter: this homemade dulce de leche cake topped with a giant churro!

Redditor CakeanSteak posted this dreamy churro-inspired cake showcasing the classic combination of cinnamon and sugar. Made with a layered vanilla sponge cake, the confection is filled with dulce de leche and then frosted with a tangy cinnamon cream cheese frosting. But that’s not all! The real icing on the cake is what’s on top. The baker ditched a regular cake topper and used a giant churro instead to really amp up this dessert. By piping the batter into a wheel before frying it, the churro served as such a creative way to finish off this treat. We are drooling just thinking about taking a bite!

How to Make a Homemade Dulce de Leche Cake With a Giant Churro

While we could certainly stare at this cake and dream for days, it is possible to make one on your own at home—and we’re making it, stat!

Step 1: Prepare the Cake, Filling and Frosting

To pull it off, start by baking a delicious vanilla cake. Be sure to make enough batter for two or three layers. While the cake layers cool, make your own homemade dulce de leche filling and cream cheese frosting. Once the cream cheese frosting comes together, add in one tablespoon of ground cinnamon and whip the frosting on high. Trust us, you can totally pull this off!

While you’re prepping the filling and frosting, make your swirled churro as well. Use a standard churro recipe to make the dough, and then switch up the shape. Use a piping bag to create the round, swirled shape, piping a circle large enough to cover the top of your cake.

Step 2: Assemble and Frost the Cake

Once the cake layers have fully cooled, place the bottom layer on a cake stand, serving platter or cardboard cake board to use as a sturdy base. Use a spatula to spread dulce de leche filling on the cake, and then place the next layer on top. Repeat this step until all of your layers are stacked and you have filling between each.

To finish off your sweet treat, frost the entire cake with the cream cheese frosting. Top the cake with the prepared giant churro, and get ready to dig in!
