What do we love as much as cooking? Well, it’s gardening, of course! There’s something about watching a living thing grow from an itty-bitty seed. It’s nourishing to the soul. That’s why every spring is its own mini revelation—so many beautiful colors and plants popping up everywhere outside (and inside, too).
We’ve talked about wild corkscrew perennials and adorable bunny succulents, but we’re here to let you know about yet another necessary indoor plant. They’re nicknamed “Eye-leaves” and yes, they’re gorgeous.
It’s Half Succulent, Half Flower!
Also known as Conophytum subfenestratum or Conophytum limpidum, these small plants are more than they appear. They’re dwarf succulents, have pale, jade or shiny green bodies and often feature flower petals of bright pink or white. The flowers stem upwards from the middle of the tiny succulent as a flashy display. You know, like a pretty eye looking right at you?
The petals of the flowers start to appear in fall and need a healthy amount of bright sunlight. They’re much like their succulent brethren in that they don’t require a lot (if any) water during the spring and often go dormant during this time. Look for “Eye-leaves” seeds on Etsy—the shop Unusual Seeds has both Conophytum subfenestratum and Conophytum limpidum. You get enough seeds to add to your indoor garden or even start a brand-new one. Because is there even a limit when it comes to houseplants? I think not. Pick your favorite and enjoy your brand new lovelies!
