We might not have gotten a lot of exercise during this pandemic, but our remote trigger finger has been getting a workout. Between Amazon Prime giving us Bob Ross’ The Joy of Painting and Julia Child’s The French Chef, and Netflix streaming the cult game show Supermarket Sweep, we’ve had plenty of choices when it comes to quarantine binge-watching. Disney+, of course, got in on the party by releasing Hamilton more than a year before the scheduled date, and now they’re adding another show to their lineup that’s sure to have us parked on the couch again. Yep, the Golden Girls are making their way to the streaming service!
Get Your Cheesecake Ready
The comedy classic about four senior women living together in Miami stole our hearts in the ’90s and remains a favorite to this day. Dorothy’s no-nonsense attitude, Rose’s sweetness, Blanche’s escapades and of course, Sophia’s zingers, came together to make one of the best and funniest shows in television history. The show ranked 54th in TV Guide‘s “60 Best Series of All Time” in 2013, and the Writer’s Guild of America listed it 69th in their list of the “101 Best Written TV Series of All Time” a year later.
The Emmy-winning show’s themes about finding love, learning to get along, and of course, friendship (the show’s theme song is, after all, “Thank You for Being a Friend”) have resonated with audiences over several generations. While most of us have gotten pandemic life down pat, we’re definitely looking forward to some laughs!
When Can We Watch Golden Girls?
Disney+ hasn’t confirmed a date yet, but all the episodes of the show should be streaming on the service sometime in summer of 2021. All you have to do is sign up to Disney+ for $6.99 a month (or $69.99 a year) to get access to the Golden Girls, along with tons of Disney, Marvel and Pixar content. Unfortunately, the streaming service is no longer offering free trials.
