The Ultimate Age-Appropriate Chore Chart for Kids

From doing laundry to mowing the lawn to vacuuming, household chores are one of life’s constants. One way to ease the burden and foster family teamwork is to get kids to pitch in. Here’s a proven way to get your kids to help clean the house.

“Teaching children chores instills leadership and lets them know that their skills and abilities are a benefit to the family,” says Laura Clary, a leadership speaker, trainer and consultant with a background in family life education and child development. “It also teaches them responsibility and supports their learning as they process size, location, colors, timing and the process of how things work and are completed.”

When teaching kids chores, it’s important to be patient during the training period. “Start by doing the chore with the child for the first few times, then have the child complete it with you close by so you can support them if they have any questions,” Clary suggests. “After that, allow the child to do the chore on their own.”

Experts also recommend that chores be age-appropriate. Check out our ultimate chore chart for kids below. It shares suitable chores for kids starting at just two years old. Have fun and good luck!
