If hot cocoa is your go-to drink of choice when the temperature drops, you’re probably well familiar with hot cocoa bombs by now. They’re the latest in upgraded hot cocoa, and it’s not just because they taste good—it’s because there’s no feeling that compares to watching that smooth chocolate shell melt open to reveal a snowy world of marshmallows. The only downside? They can be hard to find when everyone’s got the same craving for hot cocoa decadence.

That doesn’t mean you can’t still indulge, though! TikTok user @JackiSilvar is feeding our sweet side with this easy-to-follow tutorial. Here’s how to make hot cocoa bombs at home (and just in time for the holidays).

The Hot Cocoa Bomb Recipe

Before you get started, you’ll want to stock up on these essentials: the chocolate of your choice, a spherical silicone chocolate mold like this, hot cocoa powder and mini marshmallows. Start your bombs off by melting chocolate either on the stove or the microwave, then coat the inside of your mold with a healthy layer.

Next, put the mold in the freezer for 15 minutes, and make sure your chocolate shell doesn’t need any reinforcing before you try to pop it out. (If it does, just load up your mold with another layer of chocolate!)

Very carefully remove your cooled chocolate from the mold, and fill half of your hot cocoa bomb with mini marshmallows and your favorite hot cocoa mix. Smooth out the edges on the empty half of your hot cocoa bomb by pressing it onto a hot pan for a few seconds, then fit it on top of your other half. Fill any cracks in the seam with leftover melted chocolate, and voila!

But That’s Not All

You can get as creative as you like with this recipe, and that means you don’t have to just use semi-circular molds. Amazon has plenty of awesome molds available, from gingerbread men to Christmas presents perfect for putting under your chocolate tree. Just look at how adorable these shaped hot cocoa bombs are from IG user @Josie.Bullard!

You’ll notice she adds Andes chocolates and bits of crushed candy cane for some minty flair. How genius!

How to Use a Hot Cocoa Bomb

To make your hot cocoa bomb explode into a melty mountain of chocolate and marshmallowy goodness, we recommend putting the bomb into your empty mug first. Just pour some piping hot milk over it, and watch the magic happen right before your eyes. The great thing about this tutorial is that you can get pretty flexible with your ingredients—why not try a white chocolate or salted caramel hot cocoa bomb?

No matter how you mix it up, these hot cocoa bombs are perfect for cozying up fireside. Winter doesn’t get any sweeter than this.
