This Is the One Thing You’re Forgetting to Bring to Thanksgiving

What’s the best part of Thanksgiving? Some love the meal itself (especially when they include the best Thanksgiving recipes), others savor the family connections and some come for the football. But let’s not forget one of the highlights of this cherished holiday: the leftovers!

We can’t get enough Thanksgiving leftovers like hearty turkey sandwiches and mashed potato pancakes. However, in order to bring home those glorious, gravy-soaked leftovers, you need a way to transport them.

The One Thing You’re Forgetting to Bring to Thanksgiving

To-go containers! Hosting Thanksgiving is an ambitious undertaking, and most hosts are preoccupied with the cooking and making sure everyone feels at home. It’s usually not until the end of the night when the lack of to-go containers becomes an issue.

As guests head out for the evening, most hosts are left scrambling through their kitchen cabinets looking for containers to store leftovers. I have found myself buried under a pile of mismatched Tupperware and plastic baggies trying to send my family members home with a warm meal.

How to Choose a To-Go Container

If you’re planning to attend Thanksgiving as a guest, toss a few to-go containers in your bag and keep your fingers crossed that you’re offered leftovers. If at the end of the night you notice your host muttering to herself as she frantically searches for Tupperware lids, offer to pack your own leftovers to save time.

If you’re hosting Thanksgiving this year, add to-go containers to your shopping list. You’re already buying half of the grocery store, so why not add one more thing? A stack of disposable containers like these aluminum containers or stackable set are easy to store and will take some of the stress out of cleanup.

If you’re feeling generous this year, send your guests home with Rubbermaid’s Brilliance Glass containers so they’re able to heat their food up right in the container the next day. Target is currently giving away a free 3.2 cup container with select Rubbermaid set purchases. So pick one up for yourself and grab one for a friend.

The Best Way to Pack Leftovers

When packing up leftovers, keep in mind which foods tend to dry out. To keep your turkey and potato dishes moist, pack them with plenty of gravy. First, add your favorite Thanksgiving sides, then add the turkey and a generous helping of gravy. Now you can enjoy the Thanksgiving meal again the next day!
