We’ve set our clocks back an hour, and the air has cooled—but nothing says winter like making hot chocolate. Costco has already gotten our mouths watering with their hot cocoa bombs. But everyone knows there’s nothing better than cozying up by the fireplace with a steaming mug of Swiss Miss hot cocoa.
This year, Duncan Hines has joined up with Swiss Miss to bring us a hot cocoa cake mix AND a matching creamy hot cocoa frosting.
Your winter baking has never looked better!
What’s in the Mix?
To start, it has a base of rich Swiss Miss cocoa. It also has Duncan Hines’ signature simplicity. The only ingredients you need are eggs, water and vegetable oil. You’ll have a steaming hot cocoa cake in no time! You can smother this cake in the equally delicious Duncan Hines hot cocoa frosting, too.
If you’re really feeling adventurous, try whipping up a marshmallow cream frosting to get the full hot cocoa experience. And check out these other delicious marshmallow recipes. The hot cocoa frosting will also go great with any holiday cookies, brownies or other sweet treats you might be dreaming of this winter!
Where Can I Buy It?
Look for the Duncan Hines hot cocoa mix and frosting at Target, Walmart or wherever you do your grocery shopping. We found the cake mix at Target for $1.59 and the frosting for $1.99. That’s a sweet deal (pun intended).
With hot cocoa cake mix on the shelves and winter in the air, we’re ready to gear up for the holidays. Bring on the Mariah Carey! Bring on the holiday recipes passed down for generations!

This is a variation of the cookies my mother made when I was growing up. Now my 13-year-old daughter and I bake them together. They’re always a huge hit! The taste is like rich hot chocolate baked into a scrumptious cookie. —Larry Piklor, Johnsburg, IllinoisHot Chocolate Pumpkin Cake

I’m only a kid, and this is the first recipe I’ve made up. But I spent a year perfecting these cupcakes, asking advice from owners of local bakeries and my baker friends. I make them for every special occasion in my family, and sometimes just for fun. If you want the cupcakes to taste more like hot cocoa, double the amount of hot cocoa mix. This recipe works well with multiple kinds of frosting flavors: mint, maple syrup, marshmallow and buttercream. Decorate them any way you want! —Maia Hubscher, South Orange, New JerseyChocolate Marshmallow Cutouts
I make rich, fudgy cookies that taste like brownies with a marshmallow filling.
