If you’re like us, your scented candle collection is split into two categories. One: The cheap brands you let burn for hours to clear out cooking smells after making salmon for dinner. And two: the special-occasion splurge candles you light for exactly 45 minutes (during a spa-inspired bath, perhaps) and promptly extinguish with a candle snuffer to preserve the wick and wax melt. Maybe there’s even a third category: too pretty and too expensive to ever consider lighting, so just used as home decor. (Guilty.)
Thankfully, Ikea is about to change all of that. Meet Osynlig—beautiful and affordable luxury candles priced so low you can light them whenever you want, as often as you want—without any candle-associated guilt.
Starting in November, Ikea is launching 19 candles with 13 luxe-inspired scents in collaboration with the founder of the luxury fragrance brand Byredo. Just so you know, Byredo candles range from $45 to $120, while the Ikea and Byredo Osynlig candles go from about $5 to $25. Oh, and they’re beautifully designed so you can use them as expensive-looking home accents, too. Who doesn’t love candle savings just in time for the holidays?
What Are Osynlig Candles Like? Do They Smell Good?
Byredo and Ikea are both detail-focused and design-obsessed Swedish companies, so it’s no surprise they got together to create gorgeous candles that burn evenly, last for ages and smell amazing. In Ikea’s press release, it says Osynlig scents are “inspired by the emotions that scent provokes—from nostalgia for the things you’ve done, to dreams of the things you might—and, above all, heighten the experience of being at home.”
What does that mean? Basically, the Osynlig candles are designed to make your home smell more inviting and they’re divided into fresh, floral and woody fragrances.
Each candle comes in a rustic stoneware pot glazed with a blend of two colors that represent the ingredients used to make the scents. For instance, the pomegranate and amber candle burns for 45 hours, and comes in a cream and tan lidded pot for $9.99. The basil and mint candle, at the same price point and burn time, lives in an elegant ombre green pot. For a scent boost, the fig and cypress version has three wicks, and costs $24.99.
Our favorite Osynlig candle pick? It’s gotta be the Swedish birch and juniper version, the perfect scent profile for winter—and its black and white marbled pot will look stunning on a holiday mantel, bathroom vanity or Thanksgiving table.
