Ho ho ho! As the holiday season nears, we’ve got gifts on the mind, from tail-waggin’ goodies for our furry friends to kitchen essentials no home cook should go without. If you’re anything like us, Target is your go-to stop for everyone on your list, and there’s no better place to stock up on deals for under the tree. (Rumor has it even Santa does his shopping at Target…)
Of course, Christmas shopping will look a little different at Target this year. Long gone are the days of loading the kids up in the car and hiding Christmas gifts under your winter coat in the shopping cart—now you’ll have to make a reservation.
What’s Changing at Target This Year
Social distancing is as important as ever, and Target wants to keep us all healthy and happy during the peak shopping days of the season. According to Target’s newsroom, shoppers will have a couple of different checkout options this year, like contactless payment—which we’re all pretty used to by now—and the all-new MyCheckout feature, which allows shoppers to purchase their items anywhere in the store with the help of a Target team member and a handheld device. In fact, Target has equipped workers with 1,000 more of these devices ahead of the holidays.

Of course, Target is still offering pickup and delivery if you’re not too keen on heading into the store. Target is also increasing the number of Drive Up spots by 8,000 nationwide. You don’t even have to roll down your window—employees can simply confirm your personal ID number through the car window if you pay via the Target app, making pickup totally contactless, too.
You Can Make a Reservation to Shop
This year, you’ll also be able to reserve your spot in line, which allows you to beat the holiday rush—and avoid standing out in the cold for too long. All you have to do is go to Target.com/line, type in your ZIP code, and you’ll have a designated spot in line to make shopping as simple and socially distant as possible.
While we miss the free samples and fitting rooms (not to mention all of the other things you won’t see in Target anymore), we’re happy to see our favorite retailer being so accommodating during a particularly tough holiday season. Thank you, Target!
