In the age of COVID-19, we’ve seen plenty of everyday experiences modified. Now, we’re wearing masks at grocery stores, standing six feet apart in lines, sitting well away from other guests in restaurants and being asked about symptoms before we make reservations. To say “times have changed” would be a vast understatement.
There is comfort, though, in knowing things are starting to open up again. Even vacation destinations are reopening! Disney World will be reopening some of its hotels on June 22. Here’s what you need to know before you travel.
What’s Going to be Open?
The Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground and certain Disney’s Deluxe Villa Resorts will open for guests at the end of June. The places opening on June 22 include Bay Lake Tower, Beach Club Villas, the Old Key West Resort, Saratoga Springs Resort, and more listed here.
Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, Epcot and Hollywood Studios will wait to welcome guests back until mid-July, though.
What Safety Measures Will Be in Place?
Your next stay at Disney World will look a little different than usual. For starters, the state of Florida is asking all individuals coming to Florida from Connecticut, New Jersey and New York to isolate or quarantine themselves for a period of 14 days. Then, on Disney World property, masks will be required in all public areas for anyone over the age of 2. Of course, there are exceptions for anyone who is swimming or eating. Disney also recommends using contactless payment options, like MagicBands.
Before leaving home, Disney is asking that people take the temperatures of everyone in their party. Those who are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 or who have been in contact with someone suspected or confirmed to have the virus cannot enter the park. To keep proper social distance, the shuttles are spacing out passengers, so wait times for buses might be longer.
For now, we’ll be ordering the coffee from Disney World to sip at home—and making copycat Disney parks recipes.
Is Everything at Disney Going to Be Open?
No, some Disney mainstays won’t be reopen right away. The arcades, campfires, character experiences, spas and salons and playgrounds will not be available. Pools might have reduced hours, and fitness centers will open in accordance with local guidelines.
In addition, shopping will look different. You won’t be able to buy brand-new products or limited edition items in stores, but they will be available on Disney’s website.
