Right when parents could really use some backup, Sesame Street swoops in to help kids understand tough topics—losing a loved one, having a military parent stationed overseas, eating healthfully (with Cookie Monster himself) and many more. The classic kids show is at it again, this time talking about racism.
On Saturday, June 6, Sesame Street and CNN are teaming up to host “Coming Together: Standing Up to Racism,” to help families discuss racism and the ongoing protests, as well as build empathy and embrace diversity. During the one-hour town hall, kids will be hearing about these topics from some of their favorite Sesame Street characters—including Big Bird, Elmo and Rosita—along with CNN’s Van Jones and Erica Hill.
How to Watch the Sesame Street Town Hall
Tune in on Saturday, June 6, at 10 a.m. EST (9 a.m. CST) to see the town hall. The producers have made it easy for anyone to watch. Cable and satellite subscribers can find it on CNN, CNN International and CNN en Espanol, as well as the CNNgo app. Not a CNN subscriber? Your Family Can Participate
Just like other CNN town halls, viewers of all ages are invited to join in. Share your family’s questions about racism, protests and diversity, and they may be included in the program.
Sesame Street and CNN Have Paired Up Before
This isn’t the first time Sesame Street and CNN have cohosted a town hall. In April, the team tackled coronavirus, discussing what COVID-19 is, how it’s transmitted and why it’s important to avoid getting sick by staying safe at home.
We can all admit, 2020 has been a heck of a year. On behalf of parents everywhere, I’m saying thanks to Sesame Street and CNN for doing their part to lighten the load and spread the love. Keep the town halls coming!
