You Can Now Get Prescription Delivery from Costco—Here’s How

Coronavirus has changed everything, including how we shop at Costco. In the glorious pre-COVID days, it was the place to go to buy things in bulk and chow down on free samples. Lately, though, the chain has made changes, like requiring shoppers to wear face masks, limiting meat purchases and eliminating samples.

Thankfully, Costco just made a change that has us jumping for joy—and staying on our couches. You can now get prescriptions delivered to your door, and you don’t even have to be a member!

Who Will Make the Delivery?

Your prescriptions will be delivered through grocery delivery service Instacart. Talk about staying socially distant! Instacart says it offers the option for medication delivery from more than 500 pharmacies across 42 states. The odds are good there’s one near you.

It’s also worth noting that you don’t need to be a Costco member to use the new Instacart option (or to use the pharmacy at all, ever). For more Costco info, check out the secrets writer learned as an employee.

How Does Prescription Delivery Work?

It’s super simple. Basically, you’ll start by doing things the way you always have: arrange to get your prescription filled at a Costco pharmacy. Then, when the medication is ready to be picked up, you’ll get a text from Costco asking whether you want to pick it up in-person or get it delivered. When you choose delivery, schedule a time to have your medicine show up on your doorstep. It’s that easy!

There are a couple of things to remember. First, if you’re ordering a prescription from Costco on Instacart, you have to be over the age of 18. You’ll have to enter your birth date at checkout and present a valid ID to the shopper when the prescription is delivered. In the next few weeks, Instacart says it’ll introduce a feature to scan your ID and sign your phone when the prescription is delivered, so that’ll be convenient.

Instacart’s website says you can get your prescription in as fast as two hours, though we’re assuming wait times differ around the country. This is a brilliant way to stay socially distant while getting what you need to stay healthy.
