‘Night Sky’ Petunias Are Gorgeous, and They Belong in Your Garden This Summer

Ready to grow an Instagram-famous flower in your garden? Hope you have a green thumb, because the most gorgeous flowers are here and they’re called “Night Sky” petunias.

Psst… We have a list of the tools you need before you start planting.

What’s Special About ‘Night Sky’ Petunias?

These are not the ordinary pink petunias you might see in a hanging basket or window box. ‘Night Sky’ petunias have royal purple petals with starry spots that are out of this world—literally, the colorful pattern looks like a tiny galaxy.

‘Night Sky’ petunias, sometimes called galaxy flowers, are a fairly new variety that were introduced in 2016. Since then, they’ve taken the gardening world—and Instagram—by storm. So far, there are more than 4,000 posts tagged #nightskypetunia and it’s not all flowers! There are also mind-blowing manicures made to look like ‘Night Sky’ petunias and even a ‘Night Sky’ petunia tattoo.

If you want to mix things up, ‘Starry Sky Burgundy’ and ‘Pink Sky’ petunia varieties are also available. The white speckles look like glitter set off on the deep crimson and bright pink backgrounds.

Where Do I Find Them?

You can find this eye-catching color at your local nursery or garden center. You should wait until your region has had its final spring frost, which means mid-May or early June, for most parts of the country.

But if you can’t make it to the nursery right now or you’re craving extra convenience, we rounded up the best places to buy plants and seeds online. You can buy four of these petunias for around $23 from Burpee, and they’ll ship in mid-June.
