Here’s What Your Favorite Stars Are Doing to Help During the Coronavirus Outbreak

During times like this, we all need some lighthearted entertainment. Maybe you’ve been watching Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives or going through old episodes of Fixer Upper. The stars of those shows are making us laugh—and they’re helping people in need, too.

Here’s what Guy Fieri, Joanna Gaines, Brad Paisley and other stars are up to during the COVID-19 outbreak. It’s all good news!

Dolly Parton

Our favorite country singer/Southern cook just donated $1 million to coronavirus research at Vanderbilt. Dolly announced the donation on Instagram and inspired us to keep the faith, too. She says her friend Dr. Naji Abumrad has been making advancements toward a cure!

Dolly also started a show called Goodnight with Dolly on YouTube, so she can read kids a bedtime story every week.

Guy Fieri

We all know how heavily restaurants have been impacted by this crisis. Many places have had to start doing carry-out only, if not shutting down completely. In the face of such tragedy, Guy Fieri (you know, the Mayor of Flavortown) has partnered with the National Restaurant Association to start a fund for those in the industry who might be struggling to make ends meet.

The Restaurant Employee Relief Fund gives $500 grants to employees who have suffered losses as a result of being unable to work. To make a donation to the fund, check out RERF.

Joanna Gaines

We previously covered Gaines’ Instagram cooking classes, which see her making easy, convenient recipes with her family—and encouraging her followers to do so, too. They’re sweet, short clips that have really helped get our minds off of what’s happening—and they’ve given us some meal inspiration, too.

Brad Paisley

Country singer Brad Paisley’s been helping out for weeks in the Nashville area. He opened his food pantry early in order to deliver food to the elderly, and now he’s doing even more.

Brad helped launch “Gratitunes,” an Instagram project to support Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. Gratitunes will see many of the biggest names in country—Carrie Underwood, Amy Grant, Jewel, Walker Hayes and more—posting tunes on their pages to thank doctors. The program will also be accepting donations. He’s also done a virtual concert for his followers on the platform, encouraging them to stay home.

Amy Adams and Jennifer Garner

Amy Adams and Jennifer Garner have joined forces to cheer up kids (and let’s be honest, their tired parents) by reading children’s books on Instagram. They started an account called @SaveWithStories as a fundraiser for No Kid Hungry and Save the Children, and it boasts an impressive lineup of celebs: Chris Evans, Reese Witherspoon, JJ Abrams, Chris Pratt and more. Ina Garten has participated, too.

In each video, celebrities encourage the account’s followers to make a $10 donation with a text message. So far, Garner says they’ve received 25,000 individual $10 donations!
