Friends Are Exchanging ‘Sunshine Boxes’ to Brighten up Social Distancing

There’s plenty to do while you social distance, like take every virtual tour you can find or watch all 400+ episodes of Bob Ross’ The Joy of Painting. But if you’re missing your loved ones, it can be tough getting through the week. It can be tough for them, too. Luckily, crafty people on Instagram have started the cutest trend to brighten up our days.

Sunshine Boxes are the best way to send love during your downtime. Just load it up with all of your bright yellow favorites, and send it off to someone who could use a little sunshine to mellow out those blues.

It’s a Little Box of Sunshine

There are so many ways to fill up a Sunshine Box. Load yours with all the yellow you can find, like candy, homemade cards written straight from the heart and little luxuries, like sunny lip balms and lotions. (We suggest peanut M&M’s or Lemon Crisp Kit Kats—you can’t go wrong with sweets.)

The trend was kick-started on Instagram by @lovetheday, who shared with us just how to brighten up some tough times. Now, there are more than 1,600 Sunshine Boxes filling up our feeds, complete with the #SunshineBox hashtag. And seriously, these couldn’t get any cuter.

I’ve been trying to find ways to support my family in other states, friends with graduating students and those who might just need a little boost (I mean that’s all of us right?!). I think I’ll pull from the Love The Day archive and make some Sunshine Boxes to brighten up their day. They are safe, colorful and so easy to make! If you want to make a sunshine box of your own to send, I have the printables to replicate this box on my site. Honestly I wish I could send out a box to all of you!! Maybe I’ll send out a few to those who leave comments describing what they’re doing to be #coronahelpers at this time?! Maybe meaning I totally will!!! #sunshinebox #somegoodnews #covidkindness #bethegood #freeprintable #covi̇d19

These are perfect for birthdays or even as a midweek pick-me-up. Just make sure you’re following social distancing etiquette if you plan on dropping it off.

Don’t Have the Stuff? Don’t Worry!

If finding all that yellow isn’t so easy, take a stroll through Etsy. CustomizedbyChristina is currently selling Sunshine Boxes for just $14, a small price to pay for all these smiles. We also love this box from GiveSunshineGifts!

Get crafty this weekend, and pack your box up with all the treats you can find. We know we’ll be adding everything sunny in our grocery delivery order ASAP.
