Trader Joe’s Is Closing Some Stores for Cleaning Related to COVID-19

Trader Joe’s is one of many grocery retailers around the world taking drastic measures to ensure the safety and well-being of shoppers and staff. Because they don’t offer grocery delivery or pickup like many other chains, TJ’s is taking extra precautions when it comes to cleaning stores.

As if we couldn’t love Trader Joe’s any more than we already do, the corporation is also rewarding its staff with bonuses instead of keeping the profits.

Which Trader Joe’s Locations Are Closed?

In response to crew members testing positive for COVID-19, a few Trader Joe’s locations are temporarily closed for thorough cleaning and sanitizing. As of now, here are the closed locations:

New York City: 2073 Broadway

Denver: 750 N. Colorado Blvd.

You can find more information and real-time store updates on the Trader Joe’s website.

What Else Is Trader Joe’s Doing in Response to the Coronavirus Outbreak?

Limiting the number of shoppers

Trader Joe’s has set limits on the number of shoppers allowed inside at once, according to multiple sources. Social distancing is one of the primary ways help prevent the virus from spreading from one person to the next. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommend keeping a distance of at least six feet from people.

Changing store hours

All Trader Joe’s locations will only be open until 7:00 p.m. This allows extra time for workers to thoroughly clean the stores before opening and after closing. It also gives the Trader Joe’s crew a much-needed break.

Creating a senior shopping hour

Every day between 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m., there will be a designated shopping hour for customers over the age of 60. See what other grocery stores have senior shopping hours.

Paying employees for all shifts

Trader Joe’s is paying all crew members for their scheduled shifts, including those who work in the closed stores.

Offering paid sick leave for staff

Trader Joe’s is providing up to two weeks of additional paid sick time to workers experiencing symptoms of COVID-19—or any other illness.

Editor’s Note: If you decide to go out grocery shopping during this time, we encourage you to be extra cautious and practice the recommendations of the CDC and FDA.
