Costco Won’t Let Shoppers Return Toilet Paper and Other High-Demand Items

Stocking up on grocery store essentials is a necessity when it comes to social distancing. Costco is the go-to stop for a lot of people who are looking to purchase things in bulk—like mac and cheese the size of your head. You may know shoppers have been stocking up on all kinds of things during the coronavirus outbreak, like disinfectants, hand sanitizer and toilet paper.

Now, Costco is limiting what items can be returned. Here’s what we know.

What’s the New Rule at Costco?

According to Instagram accounts like @CostcoBuys, signs have been showing up in some locations limiting the returns on essentials. Those items include toilet paper, paper towels, sanitizing wipes, water, rice and Lysol. The movement may be to ensure buyers don’t snatch up too much, keeping necessities around for others who may be in need, too.

I‘m super glad Costco is doing this! Do you think this is a good idea? 🤔

Costco is also taking extra measures to guarantee their essential items are available for all customers. Shoppers are only allowed to order two units of everything, including toilet paper and disinfecting wipes. Target is taking a similar stance, rationing out their necessities to make them less elusive for those who find the shelves empty.

If you do shop at Costco this weekend, these are the best Kirkland items to look for. We recommend placing your order at Costco.com, an option that’s available to both members and non-members.

Will This Policy Roll Out Nationwide?

Costco hasn’t made any announcements. It’s looking like it’s a case-by-case, or store-by-store, basis. If you’ve got some items to return, it’s worth it to call your location first, just to make sure.

Costco is also rolling out new guidelines in response to the coronavirus outbreak. You can check out their official statement here. If you’re not too keen on going out, grocery delivery is the perfect service to try!
