Heinz Made Ketchup Truffles for Valentine’s Day, and We’re Not Sure Whether to Laugh or Cry

Valentine’s Day is made for all things sweet. We’ve been stocking up on all the best stuff, from Reese’s mug cakes to Hershey’s ooey-gooey Lava Cake Kisses. In case you want to indulge in chocolate for Valentine’s Day but miss the savory, tangy flavors of, say, ketchup, Heinz has just the assortment for you.

Heinz ketchup truffles are the gift we never asked for, but here they are in all their chocolate-covered glory. Are you brave enough to take a bite?

What’s in This Box of Chocolates?

Heinz really wants to be your valentine this year, and they’re showing it with a heart-shaped box of ketchup truffles wrapped in a shell of smooth chocolate. Each box comes loaded with nine milk, dark and white chocolate truffles for your snacking pleasure. The truffles are packed with a silky blonde ganache infused with, you guessed it, Heinz tomato ketchup.

Heinz announced this curious sensation via Instagram in late January. The jury is still out, but the ketchup truffles did garner some really positive attention. To Heinz’s credit, the truffles look good enough to eat, so if we get our hands on these, we’re no doubt eating the whole box in one sitting.

Where to Get Your Fill of Ketchup Truffles

Believe it or not, the truffles are already sold out on Fortnum & Mason’s website. If you want to snag a box for yourself and your sweetheart, you’ll have to wait until they’re back in stock—if they come back. The truffles retail at £19.95, or $25.87 in the U.S., and only 1,000 boxes were made.

If you’re still looking for the perfect way to say “I love you” this year, try all of our homemade Valentine’s Day candy. None of these recipes call for ketchup, but hey, there’s nothing wrong with a little experimenting.
