Donut Sticks at McDonald’s
At the beginning of the year, McDonald’s—which we all love for its burgers and fries—decided to give donut sticks a whirl. Basically an American churro, they’re coated in cinnamon and served with chocolate sauce. Thankfully, they’re making a come back this holiday season.
Sour Patch Kids Blizzard at Dairy Queen
Few of us have had a thick, creamy Blizzard from Dairy Queen and thought, “You know what’s missing? A sour kick that will make my face hurt.” Someone thought these Sour Patch Kids Blizzards were a good idea. It featured Sour Patch Kids floating in a fruity base. Let’s just say we’re not too upset about this seasonal flavor disappearing off the menu.
Cheez-It Pizza at Pizza Hut
In September, Pizza Hut sold a Cheez-It pizza, which looked like four large orange Cheez-Its stuffed with mozzarella cheese. It disappeared from the menu almost as quickly as it had appeared. If you’re craving a cheesy pizza, we recommend making one from scratch.
Breakfast Burger at Whataburger
Does anything scream “breakfast” more than a big ol’ cheeseburger? Honestly, many other foods do. The team at Whataburger decided to pair traditional breakfast favorites like egg, bacon and even hash browns—with their signature burger.
Kreme-Filled Doughnuts at Krispy Kreme
Krispy Kreme is known for their delicious glazed doughnuts, but in July they released glazed doughnuts filled with sweet kreme to honor…the moon? Yep, you read that right: they released this new line of doughnuts to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the moon landing. While the connection may be shaky, these doughnuts are solid.
Never-Ending Stuffed Pasta at Olive Garden
Olive Garden’s unofficial slogan might be, “If your pants still fit, you’re not done yet.” In March, Olive Garden blessed us with never-ending stuffed pasta dishes, which included ravioli, ziti and tortellini. The promotion has since ended, but our hopes that this deal comes back remain.
Snickerdoodle McFlurry at McDonald’s
When we heard McDonald’s was testing our favorite cinnamon cookies in its famous McFlurry, we just about roadtripped to Southern California to try it out ourselves. The Snickerdoodle McFlurry hasn’t made it to the full McDonald’s menu, but that doesn’t mean we aren’t ready for it.
Double Bread Bowl from Panera
Many couples have a hard time agreeing what to watch on TV, let alone what dish to order for dinner. Near Valentine’s Day, Panera brought back its double bread bowl targeted toward couples, offering to share soup from the same baguette. It would be more romantic if there were a way to share this dish without feeling incredibly awkward.
Pumpkin Cream Cheese Pies at Popeyes
That’s right, while everyone has been clamoring for the spicy Chicken Sandwich from Popeyes, they snuck this dessert back on the menu. You may not expect a chicken joint to do such a good job with sweets (especially one with trickier flavors like pumpkin and cream cheese), but this pastry is surprisingly pretty tasty. No Popeyes nearby? Have one of these pumpkin cheesecakes instead.
Cheetos Sandwich from KFC
From the sound of the ingredients, KFC’s Cheetos Sandwich should not have worked. It had fried chicken, mayo, a special Cheetos sauce and actual Cheetos placed between two buns. People who tasted it disagreed, saying this sandwich was shockingly delicious. If you’re not convinced, try our favorite fried chicken recipe (Cheetos-free).
Butterscotch Dipped Cones at Dairy Queen
There are few things as delicious as a dipped soft serve cone, especially when it’s dipped in a flavor like butterscotch. Dairy Queen brought back butterscotch dipped cones in September, and if your mouth is already watering, you can still head over to your local DQ and pick one up.
40-Ounce McFrappe at McDonald’s
Your morning coffee is probably between 12 and 16 ounces, but we all have those rough mornings where even a venti won’t quite do. Enter McDonald’s 40-ounce McFrappe, which is ideal for drinking throughout an entire week or chugging during a particularly dreadful meeting-filled day at work. It’s nearly three times the size of their normal McFrappe, which comes in 13.7-ounce bottles.
Rattlesnake Fries at Taco Bell
When you think of Taco Bell, you definitely don’t think of fries, but of unlikely food combinations that somehow work (hello, Nacho Cheese Doritos Locos Tacos). This year they released Rattlesnake Fries, which were essentially a basket of fries with beef, nacho cheese and jalapenos. If you were brave, you could get the fries served wrapped in a tortilla.
Cinnabon Biscuits at KFC
KFC serves an incredible buttermilk biscuit, not unlike these in our recipe collection. While we tend to think of them as savory sides, KFC flipped out this spring with Cinnabon biscuits, coated with a sugary glaze and baked with cinnamon.
