This is the Perfect Laundry Detergent When You’re on the Go

So you’ve tossed some delicates in the sink or a bucket to wash, only to realize you have no laundry detergent. When you’re in a pinch, it’s shampoo to the rescue. When you do have time to run to the store, remember that these are the 5 safest laundry detergents you can buy.

While you might not be interested in substituting your expensive shampoo for laundry detergent, those tiny hotel bottles you’ve accumulated are just what you need. Hotel shampoo bottles are great because they typically feature a gentle formula that’s suitable to all. Baby shampoo or any other gentle, sulfate-free shampoo will do. Steer clear of specialty shampoos, ones that tint hair or combination shampoo and conditioner products.

You’ll want to fill a clean sink with lukewarm water, add the mild shampoo and add then the garments. Swirl them around in the soapy water for a minute or two, then remove them and empty the water. Refill the sink with fresh water and rinse the garments or allow the clothing to soak in the clean water for 5 to 10 minutes. By the way, you should be adding these two ingredients to every load of laundry you do.

If you’re simply washing a couple of items in the sink, be sure to pour in just enough to make the water sudsy. About one teaspoon for a bathroom sink full of water should do it. If you’re using a large kitchen sink to wash sweaters and other delicates, you might need the entire whole tiny bottle. Check out the solutions to 4 common laundry problems.

Gently squeeze out the water with your hands and then lay the garments in a single layer on a bath towel. Roll the garment up in the towel and squeeze out extra water as you go. Hang to dry, outdoors, if possible, but if the weather doesn’t permit, hang them close to an air conditioner/heater vent or leave the windows open.
