The Nonalcoholic Sunrise Cocktail Recipe You Need to Try

If you’re looking for a mocktail to serve non-drinkers, don’t stop with these time-honored recipes, this alcohol-free sunrise cocktail checks all the boxes. Sweet orange juice combines with the tart pomegranate flavor of grenadine to make the perfect sipper. With only five ingredients, this virgin sunrise cocktail recipe is easy to make, too.

Here’s the story behind the original tequila sunrise.

How Do You Make a Sunrise Cocktail Without the Alcohol?

In a fruit-forward cocktail like a tequila sunrise, you can easily make it nonalcoholic by just leaving out the tequila. However, to give it some flair, club soda, seltzer or tonic water are all easy substitutions to add a little fizz. (Not sure what the difference is between these three? Here’s a primer.)

How to Make a Nonalcoholic Sunrise Cocktail

Ingredients

  • Ice cubes
  • 1/2 cup orange juice (preferably pulp-free)
  • 1-1/2 ounces club soda
  • 2 tablespoons grenadine syrup
  • Orange wedge and/or maraschino cherry, for garnish

Editor’s Tip: Try out Luxardo cherries ($17) in lieu of maraschinos. They’re a little pricey, but the flavor is phenomenal.

Instructions

Step 1: Ice, ice baby

Fill a highball or Collins glass with ice. (We love these vintage-style glassware sets.)

Step 2: Add the juice and a little fizz

Pour 1/2 cup orange juice into the glass, followed by 1-1/2 ounces of club soda.

Step 3: Get that signature sunset look

Slowly pour the grenadine into the center of the drink. The grenadine should sink to the bottom of the glass.

Step 4: Garnish it

Garnish with an orange wedge and maraschino cherry on a cocktail pick. You’re all set!
