Does wrapping a wet paper towel around a warm canned or bottled beverage and putting it in the freezer cool it faster than if there were no paper towel around it? Family Handyman reader, Edward Kral, says it does.

Edward theorizes that the can is analogous to your body, and the wet paper towel is analogous to sweat. He says since it’s well known that evaporation of sweat pulls heat away from your body, causing a cooling effect, the same should happen with a canned beverage in the freezer. There are lots of “expert” opinions about this online supporting both sides of the argument. Kral says he’s had many opportunities to experiment, and to him, it seems to make a difference.
