What is Bulletproof coffee, anyway?

In its purest form, Bulletproof coffee (aka butter coffee) is a combination of grass-fed butter, coconut oil and coffee. Created by Bulletproof Executive Dave Asprey, it isn’t your average cup of joe. This coffee claims to give you heightened mental function and an ample supply of energy, making you virtually “bulletproof.”

How does it work?

Butter coffee is a part of a keto-friendly lifestyle. The keto or ketogenic lifestyle includes a high-fat, low-carb diet similar to the Atkins diet. It drastically reduces your carbohydrate intake and replaces it with good fats, forcing your body into a state called ketosis. Butter coffee adds high-quality fats—not sugars—for sustained energy levels and claims to contribute to a sharper, stronger you.

Absolutely! Here’s an easy keto Bulletproof coffee recipe to make your own supercharged coffee at home. And it only takes two minutes!

Our Keto Bulletproof Coffee Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of fresh-brewed black coffee (like the brand-new Taste of Home Roast—get your free sample here!)
  • 1 Tbsp. organic grass-fed unsalted butter
  • 1 to 3 tsp. coconut oil, to taste
  • ¼ tsp. vanilla
  • Cinnamon, optional

Instructions

Step 1: Put all your ingredients into a blender or food processor.

Step 2: Blend on high for 20 seconds until your coffee is frothy.

Step 3: Drink immediately and enjoy.

So, is it worth the hype?

I’m a believer! When I made it, it seemed like a richer, creamier latte, and I was a fan of the coconut, vanilla and cinnamon flavors. Be sure to drink the coffee immediately, so you get a little butter in every smooth sip. If you let it sit too long, the fat separates and floats to the top, creating a not-so-appetizing experience. My mind actually felt a little clearer, and it powered me up for six whopping hours. That was convincing proof enough for me! Try it and see what you think.
