Who doesn’t love pizza? I mean, seriously. It’s cheesy, saucy and piled high with cheese, meat and other flavorful layers of goodness. Frozen pizza is an easy, inexpensive meal to devour with friends—or by yourself.
In our original frozen pizza taste test, the classic DiGiorno frozen pizza placed near the top. It wasn’t #1, but that was before the brand launched a new line called Stacked Toppings. Like the name says, the new DiGiorno pizzas boast way more toppings than its classic Rising Crust style.
We (happily!) set out to evaluate the new Piled High Pepperoni ‘za.
What You Need to Know
According to the box, Piled High Pepperoni is made with 100% real mozzarella cheese, a wheat flour crust, a secret sauce made with California vine-ripened tomatoes and real pepperoni. It provides 18 grams of protein per serving (roughly 2 slices).
Sure sounds promising! Time to give it a whirl.
But… Is This the Best Frozen Pepperoni Pizza?
After hungrily waiting 24 minutes for the pizza to bake, it was time to feast! We were pleasantly delighted by the taste, texture and of course, the amount of zesty pepperoni slices in every bite.
Crust: The crust had crispy edges and was perfectly chewy, with just the right amount of doughy-ness.
Sauce: The sauce had good zip, thanks to a nice blend of herbs and spices. It almost reminded us of homemade sauce.
Cheese: The mozzarella was melty, gooey and flavorful, just the way it should be. It could’ve used a bit more cheese, but the sauce and pepperoni made up for it.
Pepperoni: While the pepperoni slices weren’t perfectly evenly distributed across the pie’s surface, there was definitely more pepperoni than your average pizza. Was it truly 50% more? Hard to tell, but we were satisfied with the increased pepperoni ratio. We also were surprised by the sporadic, crispy pepperoni crumbles, which added a bit of texture and even more flavor.
Overall, we enjoyed the new Piled High Pepperoni pizza. We vote that, YES, it’s pizza party-worthy! It would be even better with one of these frozen pizza upgrades, too.
Where to Buy the Pizza
Look for the Piled High Pepperoni at your local Meijer. It will be available at more grocery stores and other retailers around the U.S. within the coming months, though.
