And cakes are a dessert perfectly designed for celebrating. When you combine the two, magic happens. We’ll teach you how to make a Kit Kat cake for your next party!
How to Decorate a Cake With Kit Kats
You don’t have to be a pro baker or a master cake decorator to create an impressive, stunning dessert.
This has become such a popular cake decorating technique that it’s even detailed on the Hershey’s website.
Step 1: Bake (or Buy) the Cake
It all starts with a cake! It could be store-bought or baked from scratch. Whichever route you take, any frosted layer cake will do.
Step 2: Lay the Frosting “Mortar”
(You can skip this step if you purchased a frosted store-bought cake). Spread a generous, smooth layer of frosting around the top of the cake and its outer layer, making sure to cover the entire height. New to frosting by yourself? Have no fear—here’s how to frost a cake easily and elegantly.
Step 3: “Break Me Off a Piece…”
Depending on the circumference of your cake, you’ll need at least 10 Kit Kat bars to cover the entire surface. Break the wafer bars in half lengthwise. Gently press each wafer to the cake vertically, side by side. Leave a tiny amount of space between each wafer (about 1/4″) to allow for easy slicing. Continue until the entire surface is coated with a “fence” of Kit Kats.
Step 4: Top the Cake
Cover the top of the cake with sliced fruit, chocolate candy, rainbow sprinkles or anything you desire. For a lovely presentation, tie a bow with a thick ribbon around the Kit Kat-lined cake. (This will also help keep the Kit Kats in place until it’s ready to serve).
