How to Make a Starbucks Green Tea Frappuccino Recipe at Home

Matcha is the new coffee! It’s trendy, colorful and screams healthy lifestyle. (Plus, drinking it might help lessen your anxiety.) It only makes sense that Starbucks bucked the beans in favor of tea leaves for one of its iconic Frappuccino beverages.

The best news? You can skip the $5.50 price tag and make this green tea Frappuccino recipe at home.

How to Make Our Green Tea Frappuccino Recipe

Like many other Starbucks copycat recipes, this one just requires a handful of ingredients and a blender (here are our favorite blenders for the job). The only out-of-the-ordinary ingredient for this recipe is the matcha powder. Unlike most teas, where you steep leaves in hot water and remove them later, matcha leaves are ground and then dissolved into water (or other liquid) directly.

You’ll Need:

  • ½ cup ice cubes (plus more for texture)
  • 1 cup whole milk (2% or almond milk will also work)
  • ¼ cup heavy cream or coconut milk (optional but recommended for a creamy drink)
  • 3 tablespoons white sugar
  • ½ teaspoon almond extract
  • 4 teaspoons matcha powder

Pro Tip: You can find matcha powder at the grocery store or on Amazon.

Step 1: Add the Ingredients

Add the first five ingredients to your blender in the order listed above. Adding the ice first allows the drink to blend more evenly without freezing. If you don’t have almond extract on hand, vanilla will work, too. Just keep in mind that it will take a little brightness away from the green color and give more of a pure sweetness instead of the nutty-sweet almond flavor.

Step 2: Sift the Matcha

Matcha powder is very fine and needs to be sifted in order to dissolve instead of forming clumps. A fine mesh strainer is perfect for this job. Just place your strainer over the blender and gently push the matcha through using the back of a spoon.

Pro Tip: You can use a fine mesh strainer like this for all sorts of kitchen tasks. But a flour sifter will get the job done, too.

Step 3: Blend

Blend it all together until you have a smooth texture and the ice is no longer chunky. For a thicker Frappuccino-style drink, add more ice as desired.

Step 4: Pour and Garnish

Pour into a glass and top with whipped cream for that authentic Starbucks experience. For a little extra flair, sprinkle on a bit of matcha powder. Serve with a reusable straw and enjoy!

Now that you’ve mastered this Frappuccino, find out which Starbucks drink is right for you based on your zodiac sign.
