How to Make Doughnuts with Biscuits

This recipe comes to us from Ginny Watson of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. It makes 10 delicious doughnuts.

Ingredients

  • Oil for deep-fat frying
  • 2 tubes (6 ounces each) small refrigerated flaky biscuits (5 count)
  • 1/2 cup seedless strawberry jam
  • 3/4 cup confectioners’ sugar

Step 1: Heat the oil

In an electric skillet or deep fryer, heat the oil to 350°F.

Test Kitchen tip: If this is your first time deep-frying, check out our how-to guide so you can fry with confidence.

Step 2: Prep the biscuits

Separate biscuits and press each one with the palm of your hand. You want to slightly flatten the dough into a disc shape.

Step 3: Fry the dough

Once the biscuits are prepped, fry a few of them at a time until golden brown—about 1 minute per side. Once cooked, remove the doughnuts from the oil and drain ’em on paper towel.

Step 4: Fill the doughnuts

Cut a small hole in the tip of a pastry bag and insert a small pastry tip. (Don’t have a pastry bag? Buy one here.) Fill the bag with jam. Then, with a small knife, pierce a hole into the side of each doughnut and add the jam.

Test Kitchen tip: Get creative with your filling! Instead of berry jam, try a hazelnut spread, peanut butter or whipped cream. If you’re feeling bold, combine different flavors for a unique experience that’s sure to satisfy your taste buds.

Step 5: Sugar-coat them

Toss the filled doughnuts in a bag with confectioners’ sugar.

Test Kitchen tip: Although they’re delicious at any time, these doughnuts are best served warm.
