A Quick Note About Passover and Kosher Wine

Passover—a week-long Jewish holiday—begins with the Seder dinner. During this special meal, four glasses of wine (or grape juice) are drunk at specific times to celebrate the exodus of the Jewish people from Egypt. (If you’re new to Passover Seder, check out our first-timer’s guide here).

Wine that is “kosher” means it has been produced following strict guidelines from the time the grapes enter the winery to when the wine is bottled. In most cases, wine that is certified as kosher requires Sabbath-observant Jews to either supervise or entirely manage the wine-making process. Additionally, any ingredients used in the wine, such as yeasts or fining agents, must also be certified kosher. All kosher wine that is produced, marketed and sold commercially will have the official mark of kosher certification. Follow along for our top picks.
