Bursting with strawberry flavor, there’s nothing like strawberry frosting for amping up your bakes. Whether it’s coupled with summer-inspired flavors like lemon or decadent chocolate, this homemade frosting is sure to be a hit.
In this recipe, we’re using a seedless strawberry jam to get the sweet strawberry flavor. Before you pick up a jar at the store, check out which brand our Test Kitchen recommends. If you prefer to make your own jam, here’s an easy guide.
How to Make Strawberry Frosting
Ingredients:
1/2 cup butter, softened
3-1/2 cups confectioners’ sugar
1/4 cup seedless strawberry jam
2 tablespoons 2% milk
Directions:
Step 1: Prep
Find a large bowl and your electric hand mixer for this recipe. Before whipping up the frosting, be sure to set out your butter so that it’s soft and about room temperature. In case you forget to set it out, here are three methods for quickly softening butter.
Step 2: Combine
In the bowl, beat the softened butter, confectioners’ sugar, jam and milk until smooth and creamy.
Step 3: Adjust
For a stronger strawberry flavor, gradually add in more jam after tasting. If the frosting is too stiff, add more milk. If it’s too runny, gradually add in confectioners’ sugar to reach the desired consistency.
Step 4: Frost
The frosting is ready to use! Grab an offset spatula for ultra-easy frosting, or use your piping bag for a professional look. Brush up on your piping skills with our guide to using a piping bag.
Use Your Leftover Frosting
Stuck with extra frosting? If you don’t have time to bake something else, try frosting graham crackers and topping with chocolate chips or sprinkles for a simple, kid-friendly activity. Or, mix the frosting with softened cream cheese to make an easy dip for pretzels and fruit. But our favorite way to use up extra frosting is eating it by the spoonful. We won’t tell if you do the same!
