How to Make a Strawberry Margarita

On a hot summer’s day, I can’t think of anything more refreshing than an ice-cold margarita. This vacation classic is famous for its endless flavor options—from tangy lime to bold prickly pear. But my personal favorite? Sweet strawberry.

Luckily, learning how to make a strawberry margarita at home is super simple. All you need are some pantry staples and a blender.

Pair your margaritas with one of these authentic Mexican recipes.

How to Make a Frozen Strawberry Margarita

Ingredients

For the Margaritas:

  • 1/2 cup tequila
  • 1/4 cup Triple Sec
  • 2 Tablespoons lime juice
  • 2 Tablespoons lemon juice
  • ¼ cup superfine sugar
  • ¾ cup limeade concentrate
  • 2 cups frozen unsweetened strawberries
  • 2 cups crushed ice

For Garnish:

  • 4 lime wedges
  • 1 tablespoon kosher salt or sugar
  • Fresh lime wedges and strawberries, optional

Step 1: Blend It Up

In a blender, combine the tequila, Triple Sec, lime juice, lemon juice, superfine sugar, limeade concentrate, strawberries and crushed ice. Cover and process until smooth.

Step 2: Prep the Glasses

Moisten the rims of four margarita or cocktail glasses with lime wedges. Sprinkle salt (or sugar, if you prefer a sweet rim) on a plate and dip rims in salt.

Step 3: Garnish and Serve

Serve margaritas in prepared glasses. Garnish with a lime wedge and fresh strawberry, if desired.

Use up your limes (or lemons!) in one of these summer citrus recipes.

How much alcohol is in a strawberry margarita?

This recipe calls for ½ cup of tequila plus ¼ cup of Triple Sec—and one batch makes about four servings. That breaks down to about 1 ½ ounces of liquor per serving. You can choose to add more or less alcohol to the margaritas depending on your preference.

Is Triple Sec alcohol?

Yes! Traditional Triple Sec is an orange-flavored liqueur, and most brands contain about 30 percent alcohol by volume. However, you can find non-alcoholic Triple Sec syrups (like this one) if you’re planning to make virgin drinks or would like to reduce the alcohol content of your margaritas.

How do you freeze strawberries at home?

Take your frozen strawberry margaritas to a new level by using fresh-from-the-patch berries instead of store-bought. To freeze fresh berries, wash them thoroughly, remove the caps and freeze them in a single layer on a baking sheet. Then transfer the frozen berries to an airtight container.
