McDonald’s Wants to Make a Huge Change to Its Drive-Thrus

How many times have you rolled into a McDonald’s drive-thru thinking that you’ll be out of there with a 2 for $5 meal in no time… only to find yourself in a long line of cars? It seems to be the same saga for hungry McDonald’s lovers everywhere, which is why McDonald’s is finally making a change. You’ll soon be able to get that Big Mac (or one of the new Twix McFlurrys) a lot sooner.

Speedy drive-thrus, here we come!

According to a recent piece published on Food Business News, McDonald’s will be making drive-thru service times a priority. Stephen J. Eastbrook, president and chief executive officer of McDonald’s, said that there’s been an increase in wait time over the past five years.

He plans on rolling out an effort to change that immediately. See what fast food chain has the fastest drive-thru—for now.

Drive-thru times have slowed down

Such a huge increase in wait time actually makes sense at McDonald’s after launching their app. With so many promos (like $1 sandwiches and free fries) that came with downloading the app, it makes sense that people started to seriously use it. The app allows customers to preorder, pay and pick up their food. This is a very similar model to what popular chains like Starbucks and Dunkin’ are doing. McDonald’s also has a partnership with UberEats, allowing customers to order McDonald’s for delivery. Talk about convenient!

However, this convenience comes at a price. The employees at McDonald’s are busy preparing the food that was ordered online, which means more wait time for the customers actually showing up to the store.

The specific plan McDonald’s has to solve long lines is still unknown, but if the CEO is talking about it, it sounds promising!
