5.1 Million MORE Pounds of Beef Recalled Due to Salmonella Concerns

Just after an explanation from the FDA about why there have been so many food recalls, another major recall was issued for 5.1 million pounds of beef. It’s an expansion of the beef recall in October that affected people across the country.

What products have been recalled?

The meat is all from JBS Tolleson, a beef processor in Arizona. The recall includes ground beef and ground sirloin products that were produced and packaged between July 26, 2018 and September 7, 2018. It was distributed to grocery stores in Texas, Arizona, New York, Arizona, California, Virginia, Indiana, Kentucky and Michigan. The products were sold under the following labels:

  • Kroger
  • Private Selection
  • Laura’s Lean Beef
  • JBS Generic

You can view the full list of product descriptions, along with their brand names and distribution areas on the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) website, as well as a PDF of the packaging for each product.

What should I do if I have one of these products?

FSIS is concerned that some product may be frozen and in consumers’ freezers. You can toss the recalled product or return it to the grocery store you bought it from. You also have the option to contact JBS Tolleson directly at (800) 727-2333 with questions.

What is salmonella and how can I protect my family?

Salmonella is a common bacterial foodborne illness. Here are some of the ways to stay safe in the kitchen to prevent salmonella poisoning and other illnesses:

You might also want to check out the USDA’s FoodKeeper app to stay up-to-date on the recall.
