Anthony Bourdain Is Getting a Big Tribute Next Year

Anthony Bourdain changed how the world eats, and we’re better for it. Between his outlook on eating simple foods and sharing meals with locals, our world has come to seriously fall in love with cuisine—both familiar and foreign. Our world has a heartfelt foodie connection with Bourdain, which is why CNN has decided to make a documentary in honor of his life and work.

If you haven’t heard, Anthony Bourdain passed away in June of this year. His death has caused an outburst of remembrance and mourning from foodies over such an incredible chef; even Barack Obama posted a sentimental tweet about sharing a meal with his buddy Tony. With the world’s continual outpouring on this loss, CNN decided to take Anthony’s story to the big screen.

When will the Anthony Bourdain documentary be released?

According to a report from Vanity Fair, a documentary is projected to hit the big screens in 2019. Created by CNN Films in collaboration with Zero Point Zero (which is the same company that produced Anthony Bourdain’s show, Parts Unknown), this documentary will first hit the festival circuit before a theatrical release. After the release, CNN will air it on their network.

What is the documentary about?

Right now, the specific storyline is unknown. Amy Entelis, executive vice president over at CNN, told Vanity Fair that there’s “still a hunger to know more about him, and honor his work and celebrate him.” She also mentioned that CNN didn’t just want to “make it perfect,” but “to make it exquisite for Tony. We want to do him justice.”

What can we watch in the meantime?

With no specific release date set in 2019, it could be a while before this documentary is officially released. Until then, CNN has decided to air the final season of Parts Unknown this fall. It’s a food and travel show where viewers follow Bourdain on his foodie adventures around the world.

Bourdain was always about eating good food and having good conversation, and he has given the world some incredible insight through his work. Between his famous cookbooks Kitchen Confidential and Medium Raw, along with the documentary Wasted! The Story of Food Waste produced by Anthony himself, he certainly had a lot to teach the world about the plate in front of us. We are sure that this documentary will reflect his incredible findings, and be chock-full of some of his best quotes on life, travel and food.
